The PSOE calls for a training program in schools to prevent unwanted pregnancies in adolescents (21/11/2017)

The Municipal Socialist Group calls on the government team, the PP, to require the Ministry of Health and Education a training program on sexual issues to be taught in schools and avoid unwanted pregnancies among adolescents.

Councilor Maite Espinosa, who will defend a motion in this regard at the next plenary, explains that in recent weeks "we are receiving some alarming news about the increase in our region of unwanted pregnancies in girls, as well as an increase in abortions, while the age is reduced among the minors who stay in state, so we understand that administrations must be involved to prevent and even prevent these pregnancies. "

Also, warns that "it is the scarce sexual education that causes our children to be assuming responsibilities that do not correspond to them by age and maturity, and it is no longer only because of an unwanted pregnancy, but because of a sexually transmitted disease or have to decide on an abortion. "

In this sense, the councilor recalled that all administrations, especially the local to be the closest to the citizen, "must implement all available resources to protect our children and one of the most effective tools for this may be the training and information, offered by professionals ".

Regarding the data released in recent days, highlights that the Region is the third community in abortions during 2016, when made 11.07% of the national total.

In addition, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics, from 2006 to 2015 there have been 2,201 unwanted pregnancies.

"We are facing figures that force us to be responsible because we are talking about girls between 12 and 15 years old and also children, who have not had a correct sex education either in their schools or in their homes," says Espinosa.

For all these reasons, the councilor asks the municipal government team to demand from the ministries of Health and Education the development of training programs for students who attend First of Compulsory Secondary Education.

"Let's see if we achieve that instead of increasing unwanted pregnancies and abortions year after year, we managed to reduce them to the maximum," he adds.
