The Adaptation Plan of Climate Change, parking deterrents, the promotion of electric vehicles or bicycles are some of the measures taken by the City Council to combat pollution (20/11/2017)

The councilman of Urbanism, Environment and Garden, Antonio Navarro, has declared that the air quality of Murcia is adequate and that the municipality is far from exceeding the annual limit values ​​provided by current legislation and allowing up to 35 exceedances per year particles in suspension PM10.

Regarding the information to the population of the registered data, the law establishes that the autonomous communities and local entities will periodically inform the population, within the scope of their competences, of the existing level of contamination and, specifically, when they are exceeded. the air quality objectives.

In this sense, the municipal website of the Environment has a direct access to the Portal on Air Quality of the General Directorate of Quality and Environmental Evaluation.

The Autonomous Community is responsible for sending data to the City Council regarding air quality, as it manages the air pollution analysis centers (Decree 36/1992 on the management of the Regional Air Pollution Surveillance and Forecast Network) .

Finally, regarding the measures that are being adopted in other municipalities for the overcoming of some air pollutants, such as the substance NO2, for which the legislation establishes a warning threshold for the population, and not PM10 particles, a contaminant that does not It has regulated neither threshold of information to the population nor threshold of alert to the population.

Navarro has stated that "in Murcia air pollution does not require additional actions to those we are already adopting, but we will be vigilant in the coming weeks to the data if we have to take additional measures to those that we are now carrying out."

In addition, the councilor added that "we have numerous actions from the City Council to protect the environment and our neighbors, an example of this is the Climate Change Adaptation Plan, the pedestrianization in the downtown areas, the deterrent parking, the promotion of electric vehicles, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan or the promotion of the bicycle among others ".
