Murcia hopes to beat the world record for bikes in a row in a race organized by Adirmu that will take place this Sunday, starting at 09.00, under the motto 'Pedalea por la diabetes'.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the president of the Murcia Association for the Care of Diabetes (Adirmu), Asunción Sáez Sánchez, and the councilors of Health and Sports, Felipe Coello, and Urbanism, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, presented today the program of events on the occasion of World Diabetes Day to be held on November 14.

This year the association has proposed an ambitious goal: to beat a Guinness world record, in particular, that of bicycles circling one by one in a race that will take place this Sunday, November 12, with a start at 09.00 a.m. Prince of Asturias (next to the Zig-Zag), under the motto 'Pedalea por la diabetes'.

The goal is to overcome the current world bicycle brand, which is registered in 1,186 bikes.

4 km by bike or on foot

The race is a route of 4 km by bike or on foot to which all Murcia are invited to join to raise awareness about the prevention and treatment of this disease that has a high incidence rate in Murcia.

The complete itinerary is Avenida Principe de Asturias, Juan de Borbón, Juan XXXIII, Ronda levante, Plaza Circular, Avenida de la Constitución, Fuensanta Plaza and Avenida de la Libertad.

'Diabetes Fest' and glucose tests at street level

After the race on Sunday, Adirmu has organized the 'Diabetes Fest' on Liberty Avenue, which will run from 12.00 to 20.00, with musical performances, health fair, a zumba sports marathon sponsored by the Department of Health and Sports, health workshops and a solidary chiringuito.

The appointment of the Sponsor of Honor of Adirmu 2017, Germán Romera will be carried out.

This complete program of events kicks off on Friday, November 10 with the conference 'Caring for your diabetes is taking care of your heart' at the Archaeological Museum and ends on Tuesday, November 14, coinciding with the World Diabetes Day celebrated under the motto 'Women and diabetes: our right to a healthy future'.

On that day, throughout the city of Murcia, health tents will be set up in which free glucose tests will be carried out, as well as healthy advice, the Findrisk test.

In the afternoon the round table 'Women and diabetes' will be held in the Archaeological Museum.

Municipal action against diabetes

The City of Murcia works closely with Adirmu through the different actions promoted by the association, which develops its work from the premises located in the facilities of the Palace of Sports, donated last year by the Consistory, and which are offered Free consultations with a multidisciplinary team of health professionals.
