HUERMUR denounces that the hundred-year-old statue of the Count of Floridablanca has been left alone (06/11/2017)

Huermur denounces that the 1848 statue of the Count of Floridablanca has lost his right hand carrying a parchment, and that the pigeon droppings are wreaking havoc on the entire structure of the monument.

The statue is part of the fountain of the Floridablanca Garden in the Barrio del Carmen, the first historic garden in the Region of Murcia declared of Cultural Interest after the request of Huermur.

The association denounces the worrying state of conservation of this historic sculpture and the whole of the century-old fountain of the garden, as well as the lack of care by the City Council, demanding urgent intervention by the CARM.

The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and Heritage of Murcia (HUERMUR) denounces the damage to the historic fountain of the Floridablanca Garden, and specifically in the centennial sculpture of the Count of Floridablanca dating from 1848, and who has lost his right hand who carried a parchment of stone, and who also has no measure to keep the pigeons and their corrosive excrement from this monument.

Huermur has been aware of the damage that this historic monument of Murcia has suffered, which is part of the Floridablanca Garden in the Barrio del Carmen, and that after the request of Huermur has recently been declared of Cultural Interest with the category of Historical Garden , thus becoming the first historic garden of the Region of Murcia.

Members of Huermur appeared last week in the garden to check the damage of the centennial sculpture, noting that it had been left handless when his right hand was dislodged.

According to some witnesses of the event, the events took place in mid-October, when the fall of this piece of solid stone, which included the hand of the statue as well as the piece that holds between his fingers.

Users of the garden showed their concern to the members of HUERMUR for the state of the sculptural group, since they could continue producing landslides, both of the statue and its base, where there are also losses of materials, joints in poor condition and numerous cracks .

From Huermur indicate that this historic sculpture of the nineteenth century is a very important part of the history of the Carmelite neighborhood and Murcia, but today has a very deplorable state of conservation, as it is obvious that lack of maintenance by of the City council of Murcia.

In the same sense, Huermur is going to file a complaint with the Ministry of Culture communicating the numerous deficiencies detected, as well as the lack of a specialized maintenance protocol and periodic and effective restoration to preserve this important monument of the city of Murcia, part of the Consistory.

Likewise, the City Council will be informed of the current status of the statue of the Count of Floridablanca and its source so that immediate measures can be taken in the face of the apathy that is besieging it.

Finally, the conservationist association urges the administrations involved to join efforts to preserve this Murcian monument and maintain the Floridablanca Garden in the proper conservation conditions of a BIC.
