Murcia presents the projects of adaptation to Climate Change in the Assembly of the Spanish Network of Cities for Climate (03/11/2017)

The councilman of Urbanism, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, has presented today in Logroño climate change adaptation projects that will be developed through the Spanish Network of Cities for Climate, thanks to the celebration of the XI Assembly of this Network which has been carried out on November 2 and 3.

Murcia, which coordinates the adaptation work group, has made a prior identification of reference projects that allow a greater visibility of the network at national and European level.

After this, he has selected as more interesting projects to execute, and with a greater repercussion the following:

The organization of carbon footprint calculation workshops for SMEs in municipalities.

The preparation of a study on the "state of the art" of the implementation of solutions carried out in the different municipalities in the field of urban regeneration: water, green infrastructure, heat island effect reduction.

Preparation of a financing proposal for a pilot project in a network that introduces climate change into the school curriculum and previous training for teachers.

In this meeting the adaptation workshops were held yesterday.

The first one was dedicated to the impacts of climate change in the municipalities.

The second is the practical measures to limit the risks of climate change in the urban environment.

In the last workshop we worked on the necessary conditions to implement these measures.

Navarro said that "from the City we want to provide solutions and measures to curb climate change, sensitizing society to be an active part of the solution."

The Spanish Network of Cities for Climate is the Section of the FEMP formed by Local Governments that are integrating mitigation and adaptation to climate change into their policies.

The Network arises from the need detected among the municipalities to coordinate in the fight against climate change.

La Red es un instrumento de apoyo técnico que ofrece herramientas para que los Gobiernos Locales alcancen sus objetivos.

Asimismo, es el principal medio para trasladar los objetivos de la política nacional de cambio climático y gestión de la energía a la escala local.
