The Councilor for Modernization of Administration, Urban Quality and Participation, José Guillén, accompanied by technicians from the Park and Gardens Service and the concessionaire company, attended yesterday a technical talk organized by the City Council, by Gerard Passola, one of the experts most important arborists in Spain.
This meeting, which is part of the 'Trees for cities' project seeks to raise awareness about the multitude of benefits provided by trees in cities.
In this way, professionals dedicated to the maintenance, care and management of trees in Murcia have discussed the importance of these copies in cities that are not mere elements of urban decoration, but are natural tools to improve the comfort of people who They live in an urban environment.
Thus, according to Passola, it has been shown that trees in cities can have very beneficial effects from a social and even psychological point of view for people.
The expert stressed that "the figure of the tree has been rediscovered as an essential element for improving habitability in cities.".
Passola has indicated as social benefits of trees that "it increases road safety, positively affects the perceptions and behaviors of the users of the city, improves neighborhood relations and comfort and reduces the deficits of attention of children".
On the benefits for health, the expert explained that urban trees "reduce obesity and asthma, improve hospital recovery, reduce the rate of premature death from respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and lower blood pressure."
Councilman José Guillén has indicated that "it is of great importance to transfer this vision on the tree to the whole society and especially to technicians to promote our policy of reforestation and care for our tree mass as a fundamental element of quality improvement of life for Murcians ".
