The mayor Juan Patricio Castro reports that in the municipality of Murcia there are more than 36,000 empty homes on which the City should inform and ask their owners to put them at the disposal of the public intermediation service that the PSOE will request to start through a motion

The councilor of the Socialist Group Juan Patricio Castro will defend a motion in the plenary session on Thursday claiming the PP the creation of a local agency of intermediation for the social rent of empty houses.

And, according to data from the Ministry of Development, in the municipality there are more than 36,000 unoccupied houses on which Castro-the Consistory should do something, taking into account the harsh punishment that the economic crisis is causing in many families, many of which they lack income to access their purchase or rent, as well as young people, unable to emancipate themselves for the same reasons.

In the City of Murcia informs the socialist mayor - there are more than 1,000 applicants who demand access to a social housing and have been left out because the supply of municipal housing is negligible, despite the fact that the Consistory has sufficient funds to establish aids to rent.

Therefore, Castro will request in the Plenary the commitment of the local government to solve this problem and that the Consistory who intermediates with developers, banks and citizens so that vacant homes are made available to the public service through the formula of social rent.

Finally, the councilor of the PSOE will ask the City Council to request the corresponding public institutions to articulate and enact the necessary legislative measures so that, in the event that said houses remain empty and this situation continues, it may proceed to impose some type of legal surcharge in the form of fees or taxes on the owners of the same.
