IU-Verdes of the municipality of Murcia has expressed its satisfaction for the celebration from November 16 to February 7 of the oral trial for contamination of the Segura river denounced by the formation of lefts in 1999.
José Manuel López Albaladejo, then councilor in the Murcia Consistory and one of the signatories of the complaint, has described as "good news" that, finally, those responsible "are called to justice to give face."
López Albaldejo recalled that 18 years ago, the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS), EMUASA and the City Council itself had been discharged to the Segura River without any clearance.
The complaint prompted the opening of an investigation by SEPRONA that confirmed the existence of the residual spills and served as a basis to build the argument for crimes against the environment and environmental prevarication.
The spills, according to the exedil, came from the sewage treatment plants of Alcantarilla and Zarandona - that covered the region of the north of Murcia -, that had remained small in capacity.
In the case of the second, "the conduit was punctured so that the spills were to the Azarbe of that hamlet, and in turn to the Vega Baja as irrigated water that had not been subjected to purification."
IU-Verdes will promote a campaign to disseminate this initiative to publicize the content of the complaint and raise funds, through crowfunding, with those who face the cost of the trial and report on the proceedings.
