Opposition again asks the municipal government to give a space to the Railway Museum (24/10/2017)

The municipal groups of PSOE, Citizens, Cambiemos Murcia and Now Murcia in the City of Murcia have submitted a joint motion for the municipal government to allocate the historic building of the train station del Carmen, ceded by Adif to the Consistory, to host the seat of the future Railway Museum after its corresponding adaptation, as well as to incorporate as local patrimony certain pieces of the railway service in danger of deterioration, such as a revolving bridge and water reservoirs.

The opposition petition also includes an agreement for the Government team to comply with the initiative approved by this Corporation in October 2016, which called for a meeting with representatives of the Association of Friends of the Railroad (AMAF), technicians municipal and opposition groups, in order to "unblock" the situation to enable the Museum and proceed to the cataloging of the pieces.

The formations that subscribe the motion have remembered that the origin of the claims of the AMAF to have a municipal center in which to locate the documentary and material funds of the history of the railroad, in order to avoid the degradation of the same, goes back to the year 1981. "Nothing has been done to advance the conservation, exhibition and public dissemination of the railway heritage of the municipality," the political groups have maintained.

They have also highlighted the work and voluntary dedication of the association, which has more than 1,300 pieces and documental material of a high historical value.

"This City Council," said the municipal groups, "can not ignore such wealth."
