Organized by Lyceum of Science of the Region of Murcia, UMU Professor Consuelo Ruiz Montero, professor of Classical Philology, will give the lecture-conference "Women and science in ancient Greece" on Tuesday, 24 October.
It will be at the Real Casino of Murcia at 19:30 hours, and the entrance is free until capacity is completed.
The lecture will focus on the role of women in classical thinking, focusing on the role played by women in it and analyzing the work of Pythagorean women, Aspasia of Miletus, grammars of Alexandrian and Roman times, and Hypatia of Alexandria.
The speaker will analyze the socio-cultural context of these women, explaining the reasons why one type of knowledge predominates over others.
Consuelo Ruiz Montero is currently working on the publication of a monograph on "Orality and Greek Literature in the Roman Empire", which is a subject of numerous publications and in which it enjoys international recognition. will be published in Cambridge Scholars Publishers.
Born in March 2017, 'Lyceum of Science Region of Murcia' is directed by the professor of the University of Murcia María Trinidad Herrero.
It is an open platform to enhance the career of women in the Region of Murcia in all areas of science.
Its aim is to enhance and secure the opportunities of women in science in order to continue their active work.
It involves women from the three universities of the Region (UMU, UPCT and UCAM), and Research Centers (CEBAS-CSIC, IMIDA, IMIB, IUIE) of the Region of Murcia, being open to all people.
