Valladolises welcomes the claim for equality of rural women (17/10/2017)

Inauguration of the Third Women's Day in the Rural Area for the promotion of entrepreneurship, women's entrepreneurship and equal opportunities.

The Valladolises Municipal Center today hosted the inauguration of the Third Women's Day in the Rural Area, a space to claim equal opportunities for women entrepreneurs in rural Murcia, "whose activity, vision and leadership is decisive for progress of the whole of society, "said the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta.

This year, the conference, which commemorates the International Rural Women's Day on October 15, addresses the perspective of women with disabilities in the rural environment and includes exhibitions, talks and exchanges in which various women's associations of the municipality actively participate , with the aim of supporting entrepreneurship, women's entrepreneurship and equal opportunities.

José Ballesta, who inaugurated the conference along with Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, stressed that "the role of women entrepreneurs is reaching increasing importance in the rural economy.

Rural women have diversified their field of action, leading activities that complement traditional agriculture and livestock, such as ecotourism, rural tourism and experience, agro-tourism, crafts, personalized production, transformation of native products and the agro-food sector , among others.

Social awareness about the situation and position of women living in rural areas, visibilizing their needs as well as publicizing proposals and resources aimed at promoting the empowerment and equality of women and men in rural areas .

After the inauguration of the conference, José Ballesta and Conchita Ruiz visited the exhibition on the 'traditional women's clothing' of the cultural producer Alicia Baltasar, a show that allows the viewer to approach the work and daily reality of women through different costumes and designs.

Presentations

Mª Jesús Navarro Ríos, Agricultural Engineer and Professor of the Polytechnic University of Orihuela at Miguel Hernández University, opened the cycle of papers with 'Actions for the development, empowerment and equality of women in rural areas'.

Later, Francisca Gil Martínez, entrepreneur of the rural complex 5 Soles, shared the 'Entrepreneurship of women in the rural environment', before the closing of the conference with the presentation 'Perspective of women with disabilities in the rural environment' by María Teresa Lajarín Ortega, president of the Women's Committee of CERMI Región de Murcia.
