Two Japanese experts are interested in the study of seismic risk of the municipality (16/10/2017)

Representatives of the Civil Protection Service have held a meeting to continue developing the study and analysis of seismic risk of the municipality of Murcia, contracted with the University of Almeria.

The meeting was attended by Professor Manuel Navarro accompanied by two Japanese specialists in seismology such as Takahisa Enomoto, a professor in the Department of Structural Engineering of Kanagawa University who has conducted various studies and conferences in Spain on soil conditions that condition the seismic movement, and his collaborator Yoshiya Oda who are visiting Spain and have been interested in the study that is developed in Murcia.

Thus, Oda has been interested in participating in the work of measurements of microzonation Geophysical Vs that will be carried out during this next November in the streets of the municipality.

This "Vs" measurement is the measurement of the mean velocity of the waves in the first 30 meters of soil that is necessary to evaluate the characteristics of the seismic response of each type of urban soil and its capacity of wave amplification.

It consists of sound measurements in more than 50 points distributed in a homogeneous grid in the zone of the first phase of the study conformed by Murcia capital and bordering districts of Espinardo, El Puntal, Cabezo de Torres, Churra, Santiago and Zaraiche, Zarandona, Puente Tocinos , Santiago el mayor and San Pio.

Since the beginning of the study of seismic risk last July have been compiled data necessary for its development, geological, geophysical, seismological, cartographic and population, as well as planning the location of measurement and seizure work data to be developed during the next quarter.

This study and analysis of seismic risk in the municipality will serve as the basis for the preparation of the special plan for local action of seismic risk in Murcia, which will define the fundamentals, structure, organization, operational criteria, intervention measures and coordination instruments which must be carried out in the event of damage caused by an earthquake.
