The UMU commemorates the bimillennial of Ovid, one of the greatest Latin poets (16/10/2017)

The University of Murcia commemorates the bimillennial of one of the greatest Latin poets: Ovid, author of such emblematic works as "The art of loving" or "The metamorphosis".

The University of Murcia was already a pioneer in studies on Ovid in 1964, when Professor Antonio Ruiz de Elvira, founder of the Department of Classical Philology of UMU, published the first volume of a bilingual edition of "The Metamorphosis".

Now they are precisely three teachers of the UMU, former students of Ruiz de Elvira: Rosa Maria Iglesias, Maria Consuelo Álvarez Morán and Francisca Moya del Baño, who have sponsored this tribute to the Roman poet.

On October 17, 18 and 19, under the name "Recalling Ovidio", two lectures and a roundtable will be held at the auditorium of the UMU (Campus de la Merced). his relationship with other poets.

On Tuesday, October 17, at 12:30, Francisca Moya del Baño, will talk about "Troia invisa puellis, women victims of the war in Heroidas".

On Wednesday 18, María Consuelo Álvarez Morán and Rosa María Iglesias Montiel, will lecture on "Text woven in the Metamorphoses of Ovid".

Finally, and coordinated by Rosa Iglesias Montiel, the roundtable "Ovidio y los poetas", with the participation of Vicente Cristóbal (Universidad Complutense de Madrid), will be held on Thursday at 6.30 pm;

Juan Antonio González Iglesias (University of Salamanca) and Rosario Guarino Ortega (University of Murcia).

The activities are part of the cycle "DeLetreArtes, cultural logographies", is organized by the Department of Greek Philology, Faculty of Letters, and in it collaborates the Service of Culture of the UMU.
