"It is necessary to preserve the rights of citizens in the growing digital environment" (12/10/2017)

Experts on sociological, legal, technological and labor profiles in telecommunications and Smart Cities have presented at this technical meeting the integration of citizens with digital advances, a fundamental pillar for the future, as Spain is playing a leading role in Smart Cities worldwide.

"We are living a revolution of the society based on communications," said Jose Javier Medina Muñoz, director of the Chair of Citizens and Digital Technologies of the UCAM, so it is necessary to apply a rule, already present in many countries , which bets on the rights, duties and protection of the citizen in the face of the need to relate to telecommunications.

It is about ensuring the communications that citizens keep daily and that they can enjoy them safely.

It is also about being prepared to be effective when dealing with computer crime.

We are very close to being victims of a robbery or scam on the Internet, our data circulate through a network in which part of that data is made public and usurping an account today is feasible, "he said during the day.

For this reason they intend with this regulation to prevent the misuse by third persons of all this information, from the protection of the image in a business that records each activity to its customers, to the service of any type with electric meter that measures the own consumption in home.

"Many of the citizens' data are increasingly exposed in networks, and therefore it is necessary to preserve the rights of citizens in the growing digital environment," says Rafael Melendreras, director of Degree in Telecommunication Systems.

Through the new technologies, citizens can live in an intelligent city, using all technological services.

Manuel Núñez Encabo, Professor of Law at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid has stated that it is "a legal regulation that must be used so that citizens have the guarantee that their rights are protected", such as data protection or the veracity of the information.
