Social Rights collaborates with ASSIDO in its project to provide independence and autonomy to people with Down Syndrome and Intellectual Disability (06/10/2017)

The Governing Board of the City of Murcia, meeting this morning, has given the green light to a collaboration agreement with the Association for People with Down Syndrome (ASSIDO) that includes the grant of a subsidy of 8,000 euros.

An amount that is destined to the development of the project "Walking towards the Independence and the Autonomy of the Person with Down Syndrome and Intellectual Disability".

"One of the great objectives of this Government team, and therefore of the Council of Social Rights, is to contribute to improving the day-to-day lives of those who need it the most. today we approve, which allow associations like ASSIDO to carry out projects that allow people suffering from Down Syndrome or Intellectual Disability to enhance their social relations, their communicative skills or habits of autonomy, "explained the Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz.

The actions of the initiative are aimed at 131 direct beneficiaries with Down Syndrome and / or Intellectual Disability aged between 5 and 18 years old, enrolled in ordinary primary and secondary schools.

They are performed in small groups of 4-5 children.

Among the objectives set out in the project is the harmonious development of the personality of the children, attending to all facets of it;

to improve, through personal and collective work, social behavior, communication with others and habits of autonomy at all levels, as well as favor creativity, imagination, own initiative and expression of their world.

It should be remembered that ASSIDO is a non-profit organization created in 1981, whose main purpose is to improve the quality of life of people with Down Syndrome and jointly with other intellectual disabilities, promoting the full development of their individual capacities, favoring full family, school, social and work integration so as to facilitate in this way a life as standardized as possible.

At present it has three centers and two sheltered homes to serve the more than 320 people who use the Association.
