Development Cooperation subsidizes with 5,000 euros the Manos Unidas project "Struggle for gender equity of women and girls" in the Moroccan province of Bni Said (05/10/2017)

The City of Murcia, through the Call for Development Cooperation Projects currently collaborates with the amount of € 5,026.26 with the project aimed at "Struggle for gender equity of women and girls."

An aid that forms part of the wide battery of measures that the council of youth and development cooperation, directed by Rebeca Pérez, drives throughout the year.

The project takes place in the Douro de Chroda, in the province of Bni Said in the North of Morocco.

It is a rural area, with an approximate population of 1,326 inhabitants who are mostly engaged in subsistence agriculture.

The beneficiaries are 30 women members of families of subsistence farmers, lacking opportunities and freedoms to improve their situation and to leave their situation of vulnerability.

With the implementation of the project, women, grouped in associations, will strengthen and can claim their rights more strongly and children, from school, will be aware of the value of education by sharing spaces with their own mothers and will see as they too are formed to have a better future.

The project counts on the participation of the beneficiaries who will help in the construction work, cleaning of the environment and lodging of masons and AMED that contributes 15% of the office material.

A collaboration that goes further, since in the Call for Development Cooperation Projects in 2015 the City of Murcia granted the amount of € 18,302.04 to collaborate in the Co-financing project aimed at "Improving the health situation in the Region of Ségou through the training of public health nurses and maternal and child care "in Mali, whose total cost was € 331,793.89.

The project has three lines of work which are as follows:

1. To increase the social and institutional capacities of the women of the Douar by creating a women's association, in order to promote real effective participation as an organized collective.

2. Promote the economic opportunities of women with the creation of spaces adapted for the training of women.

It also establishes inclusive, sustainable and competitive production and marketing systems.

3. Encourage appropriate learning of basic skills and capacities of vulnerable rural population groups, children and rural children, improving school facilities and incorporating in the curriculum subjects subjects that will increase the possibilities of labor insertion within the local environment.

Manos Unidas is the Association of the Catholic Church in Spain for the support, promotion and development of the most disadvantaged and developing countries.

It is, in turn, a Non-Governmental Organization for Development (NGDO) of volunteers, non-profit, catholic and secular.

It has 58 years of experience and currently (data from 2016) has 5,089 volunteers, 77,540 members and collaborators and 136 contracted workers, which allows it to dedicate only 7% of its funds to maintain the administration and structure, allocating the rest of the collection (€ 47,620,623) for its own purposes.
