The Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases inaugurates its new headquarters in Murcia (02/10/2017)

The City of Murcia cedes some facilities in the municipal building of Plaza Bohemia, very close to Morales Meseguer Hospital.

The Murcian delegation comprises 15 associations of rare diseases and has a team of four professionals who provide psychosocial support and care free of charge.

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Education, Relations with Universities and Heritage, Rafael Gómez, today inaugurated the new headquarters of the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER) in the city of Murcia;

facilities provided free of charge by the City Hall in the municipal building of the Plaza Bohemia.

FEDER moves from its former headquarters in Totana to the capital of the Region, fulfilling a historic demand of the Murcian delegation, which from now on can pay direct attention to patients and their families in a location close to the main hospitals in the Region (Morales Meseguer is the nearest) and easily accessible by public transport.

It is estimated that in the Region of Murcia there are between 85,000 and 100,000 cases diagnosed and there are known about 7,000 rare diseases worldwide.

"The new headquarters of the ERDF will give a greater public visibility to the Murcian delegation, thus advancing in the defense of the rights of this group whose struggle is an example of determination and tireless struggle, which requires the unanimous support of all institutions and social agents, "said José Ballesta.

FEDER is a national body that has 324 associations and seven delegations in Spain, one of them in Murcia, since it was born in 2009 by the Association of Rare Degener Diseases.

The Murcian delegation comprises 15 associations of rare diseases and has a team of four professionals (two social workers, one administrative and one psychologist), who provide psychosocial support and care free of charge.

In addition to the attention of the team of professionals of the Murcian delegation, patients can access the set of services provided by FEDER Spain: psychological support, information and guidance, advocacy and legal counseling, volunteering, family respite and inclusion in schools.

The new headquarters of FEDER Murcia has several offices and a meeting room.

It has been established in a building on the ground floor of the Belén building, which is municipal property and which the delegation shares with other municipal units such as the District Council of Santa Maria de Gracia and the Federation of Neighborhood Associations.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Health, Manuel Villegas, the delegate of FEDER Spain, Juan Carrión, and the delegate of FEDER Murcia, David Sánchez.
