A specific agreement will combat pests of trees in the forest parks of the municipality (29/09/2017)

The Governing Board has approved the award of the Service of works of prevention and phytosanitary control in the forest parks of the municipality, which will allow to carry out different actions for the prevention, control and control of forest pests of pine processionary and borers.

The City of Murcia maintains a network of municipal forest parks currently counting some 3,000 hectares.

The current situation of the municipal forest parks makes it necessary to establish a coordinated work system that includes the necessary control, prevention and eradication of the damages caused by these pests present in the municipality that will focus on borers (Tomicus destruens, Orthotomicus erosus ) and the pine processionaria (Thaumetopoea pityocampa).

In summary, the most appropriate work for the treatment of the Pine Procession (Thaumetopoea pityocampa) is the cutting of pockets found in recreational areas or areas of public use in which there is a greater concentration of users, marked trails or forest roads.

Phytosanitary treatments will also be used by terrestrial means, with fast action, good persistence and zero toxicity, and biological control against the pest in the form of a microbial insecticide with the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis var.

Kurstaki.

On the other hand, for the treatments against Escolítids (Tomicus destruens and Orthotomicus erosus), it is necessary to use traps of massive capture, the placement of bait trees and the elimination of affected or debilitated feet.

The aim of these works is to prevent these foci from being extended to adjacent areas with severe conditions on the landscape and large-scale forest masses, to obtain vegetal structures formed by healthy individuals, with a greater degree of durability, to have recreational areas and areas free of forest pests that allow in the enjoyment of the environment and adapt and clean up the forest masses to avoid the proliferation of new outbreaks of pests.

The tenderer's machinery park will have an off-road vehicle, a spray gun, a chainsaw, a truck and backpacks to fumigate.

The winning company is Retamar, Obras Servicios y Medio Ambiente SL with an investment of 60,000 for one year, extendable to two others.
