The UCAM creates a volunteer to promote cooperation in sustainable tourism (26/09/2017)

On World Tourism Day, the Catholic University of Murcia collaborates with its motto "Sustainable Tourism as a Development Instrument" through the implementation of the International Volunteer Project for Sustainable Tourism Cooperation (VICOTUR) designed by students and professors of the Degree in Tourism.

The objective is to promote responsible tourism practices for the benefit of conservation and the economic and cultural development of the environment.

The United Nations has designated this year, 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.

Therefore, this September 27, World Tourism Day, the Catholic University of Murcia, as an affiliate member of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), wanted to contribute to this project of volunteering by promoting VICOTUR, an organization that was born as an international organization non-profit organization that encourages the use of tourism as a tool for cooperation, conservation and sustainable development.

The vice-dean of the Degree in Tourism, Ginesa Martínez del Vas, says that "this organization wants to represent all entities, public or private, that with their effort are betting on a new way of solidarity, where sustainability is the key word for the development of any tourist activity, both from the perspective of the traveler and the receiving community. "

Among its activities, VICOTUR will disseminate the basic principles of UNWTO;

advise agencies, companies and local governments on cooperation projects in tourism in developing countries and provide professional training programs in the country of destination.

This project of International Volunteering for the Cooperation of the Sustainable Tourism was born the past course, as a result of the work of national and international students and professors of the subject Tourism and Cooperation to the Local Development.

Throughout the year they were shaping this project that is now being born to join this International Year of Sustainable Tourism.

The most specialized tourism training

The Catholic University of Murcia offers a double degree in which in addition to the Official Degree in Tourism, the student can specialize through four titles of University Graduate in Marketing and Communication Tourism, Tourism and Business Management, Sports Tourism, Leisure and Free Time and Tourism and Hotel Management.

This Degree also has two Official Mentions in Commercial Management and Marketing and Advertising Management and Public Relations and two possibilities of postgraduate training: the University Master in Hotel Management and Restoration Companies, which is taught face-to-face and in English, and the Master's Degree in Innovation and Tourism Marketing, which can be attended in English and online in Spanish.
