A total of 23 teams of architects, of the 25 who registered, have submitted within the deadline that ended last Wednesday, their preliminary projects for the rehabilitation and use of the building of the former provincial prison, convened by the City Council, of the Department of Development, directed by Roque Ortiz, and in close collaboration with the College of Architects.
These proposals will address the solutions of integral rehabilitation, options of possible uses to be implemented in the different spaces, urban integration, accesses, permeability, treatment of adjacent gardens, as well as any other similar aspects that will result in the recovery of the space to be treated as an urban reference , tourist and cultural.
According to forecasts, before the end of October, the jury will select a maximum of three draft proposals, and the jury may appoint one of them as the winner.
Once the winner has been selected, the project will be immediately tendered so that rehabilitation works can begin in the first half of 2018.
The project of execution of the first phase counts on the pertinent financing and foresees the allocation of social and cultural uses, besides taking into account a space to pay homage to the Historical Memory.
The maximum budget of the competition is set at € 21,000, corresponding to the three prizes of € 12,000, € 6,000 and € 3,000 planned.
