The Contraparada Visitor Center will become a point of reference to extol the orchard and the Segura river. This project is part of the actions of the Plan of Action of the Orchard that develops the City of Murcia (23/09/2017)

The Board of Governors approved this morning the list of specific administrative clauses for the contracting, by open procedure subject to harmonized regulation, of the mixed supply and works contract, relative to the Visitors Center of the Contraparada in Javalí Viejo.

The project is part of the actions of the Plan of Action of the Huerta developed by the City of Murcia and will cost 484,666.07 euros, with a lead time of 9 months.

Among the main objectives of the Center are to facilitate a first contact with both the environment and the whole of the orchard of Murcia and its river, stimulating the visitor to understand, know and preserve it, revealing the meaning of natural, cultural, historical, landscape and ethnographic aspects of the Murcia garden, and fostering an attitude of citizen participation and respect for these values.

Likewise, the new Visitor Center will be the indispensable reference point for an area, such as La Contraparada, which has more and more public use and number of visitors.

The Center will have an explanatory space, distributed in two floors, which will install a complete equipment of interpretative supports based on modules and three-dimensional displays that combine volumes with text, graphic media and technological means and incorporate a wide range of visual, audio and interactive.

The ground floor will be dedicated to visitors reception space.

At the reception, visitors can inquire about all aspects of the center, pick up a multimedia guide or download QR programs for mobile devices to help them complete the contents of the visit.

The main resource of this ground floor will consist of an audiovisual room that will exhibit one of the main attractions with which it is endowed with the Center: the audiovisual "The river that gives life".

This audiovisual will be a powerful interpretative introduction of all aspects treated in the Center on the garden and the river and will be made with 2D and 3D animations, use of drones for aerial images, use of actors and varied infographic effects.

The ground floor will also have a large multipurpose room, which will provide a dynamic space for use as a function room and multifunctional space suitable for holding workshops and seminars, projections, presentations, temporary exhibitions, talks, etc.

Access to the upper floor will be done through stairs that, with the use of various visual lighting and screens, has become "a river to climb" to continue the visit.

The upper floor has been designed as a large space with a pleasant and unified environment in which the contents will be deployed in four major thematic areas.

The first area reflects the origin, history and evolution of the river Segura, the orchard and the Contraparada, a second area on crops and uses in the orchard of Murcia, focusing on traditional agricultural techniques, local varieties, biodiversity in crops, the use of auxiliary and ornamental plants, the main products of the orchard of Murcia and the local gastronomy.

A third axis dedicated to the identity and the Huertan culture, and a last one destined to the interpretation of the main ecological and environmental values of the Contraparada and the Segura river.
