Now Murcia reiterates that "it should be guaranteed that the urban stretch of the river is healthy and safe if you wish to carry out recreational activities or sports in its channel" (22/09/2017)

- The municipal group will take a motion in this regard to the Town Hall Plenary

- Alicia Morales stresses that "the environmental rehabilitation of the Segura must be put before any mega action with the concrete as protagonist"

NOW MURCIA has reiterated today that "it should be ensured that the urban stretch of the river is healthy and safe if you want to carry out recreational activities or sports in its channel."

The declarations of the municipal group arrive after knowing the report of the CHS that indicates that the Segura during its passage by the city contains "pesticides and hydrocarbons", among other elements.

"In Now Murcia we have been for months," says Alicia Morales, "demanding a thorough rehabilitation of the Segura as it passes through the city."

The municipalist formation registered a motion to this effect two weeks ago for the plenary session next Thursday, but when the opposition groups agreed that the monographic topic of debate of this session will be the burial of the AVE, Now Murcia has withdrawn the motion to take it to the plenary of October.

"The motion requests that the urban stretch of the river," says the mayor, "be declared suitable for bathing. This statement, obviously, would not be made in the current conditions of the water, but after the relevant rehabilitation."

Morales recalls that "the requirements for water to be declared suitable for bathing add that the analyzes based on that statement are much more exhaustive. What we are looking for from Murcia Now, in short, is to ensure that if activities are carried out in the Segura as they pass through the city, the waters are fully healthy and safe. In recent years, activities have been organized in the riverbed, even promoted by the City Council, without offering the maximum guarantees on their status.

The Councilor also recalls "the green waters of this past summer in the urban stretch of the river" and notes that "it seems evident that what the Segura needs is an environmental rehabilitation and not the Murcia River project as designed by Ballesta, which is a mega action with the concrete as protagonist ".
