Pacheco highlights the tourist development of Murcia during the Congress of mobility and sustainable tourism of Malaga (14/09/2017)

The Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, together with the Murcia Tourism Manager Convention Bureau, Ramón Palazón, participated in the II Edition of the Congress of Mobility and Sustainable Tourism, held in Malaga, where the importance of sustainable development as an engine of responsible economic growth.

The conference was attended by the directors of Mobility, Environment and Tourism of municipalities and autonomous communities together with institutions, associations and experts in intelligent mobility who have described the actions undertaken in their respective areas to promote mobility and tourism development.

During his speech, Pacheco has disaggregated the actions undertaken by the City of Murcia to promote sustainability and mobility in the municipality, among which has highlighted the Plan of Action of the Huerta, the project Murcia River and the plan 'DNA Urban'.

The Councilor for Tourism also stressed the importance of the Operational Plan for Tourism Development 2017-2010, "a consensual document, fruit of the experience and participation of all and evaluable" which according to Pacheco will serve to mark a roadmap that serves to " improve the competitiveness of Murcia as a tourist destination ".

With regard to mobility, Pacheco highlighted the importance of the 'Muybici' public bicycle rental program, which already has 50 stations throughout the city and 134 kilometers of bicycle paths that take advantage of the city's flat terrain to offer a sustainable transport service and interconnected with other means of transport like the tram or the bus ".

Thanks to these actions has reminded that the city of Murcia has received 17.5 million euros from the European institutions to develop the various actions in progress.

Among them, the 24 kilometers of the Segura River, which runs through the municipality and which aims to become a transforming axis of the city with new parks and integrated services, is worth highlighting.

The first five interventions of the plan that are already underway have received a budget of 6.3 million euros.

Also important in terms of tourism are the cultural activities that are celebrated throughout the year and which count on a large number of citizens, such as the Spring Festivals, the September Fair, Holy Week or the different musical festivals such as Murcia Tres Culturas or the WAM Festival that have contributed to the tourist growth experienced in 2016.

Pacheco concluded by recalling the importance of adopting sustainable models of growth in the sector, "we must aim for tourism companies to reach the highest levels of maturity in adopting sustainability," he emphasized, "and take into account the processes participatory with other social actors such as neighborhood associations and institutions. "

The second edition of Mobility and Sustainable Tourism has taken place in the Unicaja Chamber of Concerts María Cristina and has been attended by representatives of other municipalities such as Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Málaga, and Terrassa and the autonomous communities of Madrid, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands .
