The Councilor for Youth and Development Cooperation, Rebeca Pérez, attended this morning, together with the mayor Margarita Guerrero, to the presentation of the first illustrated African children's story entitled 'The Journey of ILombe', the joint publishing house Potopoto newly created, together with the association Afromurcia en Movimiento.
This story is based on traditional tales of oral tradition in Equatorial Guinea, which tells the adventures that a girl faces, ILombe, when she decides to go looking for her mother through the forest.
Its publication has been possible thanks to a microfinance campaign on the Verkami platform, where more than 200 people have participated by acquiring their specimen in advance.
The author, Alejandra Ntutumu, founder of POTOPOTO, the storyteller and writer Camerunés, Boniface Ofogo, the Spanish writer of children's literature, Marisa López and Belinda Ntutumu, president of Afromurcia en Movimiento .
The project Potopoto was born with the main purpose of giving children access to books that tell their stories, with characters with whom they feel identified and that match their realities.
As well as creating children's literature that reflects more diverse multicultural values ​​so that children at an early age are more aware of cultural diversity.
Potopoto also wants to give all boys and girls with functional diversity access to children's stories, in order to bring education closer to diversity based on the different capacities of children and their parents.
It is an editorial project of solidarity that seeks to bring African stories to children in Spanish speaking countries to maintain their cultural references, while producing more diverse children's literature.
Because children need stories to understand and understand the world.
