The first Youth Orchestra 'Ciudad de Murcia' is born (13/09/2017)

The Town Hall and the Orfeón Fernández Caballero sign the agreement that will allow to unite and give projection to all the young instrumentalists, directors and composers of the municipality.

It will be the first orchestra of municipal ownership and, for this, the City Council has had one of the most prestigious musical groups in our country, such as Orfeón Murciano.

The Youth Orchestra 'Ciudad de Murcia' will be publicly presented at a free concert that will host the Teatro Romea on Friday 22 September.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the president of Orfeón Murciano Fernández Caballero, Inmaculada Leal, today signed the agreement that represents the creation of the first Youth Orchestra 'City of Murcia'.

"To date, the city of Murcia did not have a choral group or instruments of municipal ownership.

This agreement is a milestone for the preservation of the cultural resources of the municipality and the promotion of artistic excellence in the field of music, "said José Ballesta, who added that" for this we have the dean of the choirs of the Region - with more than 80 years of history - and one of the most prestigious groups in our country, such as Orfeón Murciano Fernández Caballero.

The new Youth Orchestra 'Ciudad de Murcia' OMFC will be presented publicly at a free concert that will host the Teatro Romea on Friday 22 September.

The group will offer new concerts throughout the year and will be an instrument for the expansion and dissemination of music among young people throughout the municipality, who will have the opportunity to expand their teacher training.

In addition, it will contribute to discover new talents among the young Murcia, as it will incorporate new musicians from the Conservatory of Murcia, to train them and offer them the opportunity to gain artistic experience.

"The Orchestra will bring together all the musicians from Murcia who are in the learning stage, in a formation that educates them in values ​​through music, giving projection to the young instrumentalists, directors, and composers of our municipality," said the councilman. .

The agreement signed today involves a contribution of 15,000 euros by the City Council, to support the Youth Orchestra and the development of musical activities, musical training, staging and concert trials of Orfeón.

300 voices and 84 years of history

The Orfeón Murciano Fernández Caballero has been specialized since its creation in 1933, in Renaissance vocal polyphony to the present day and its high interpretive quality has been recognized in many occasions, having granted him numbers prizes and awards, both inside and outside the Region of Murcia, in its more than eighty years of existence.

In addition to having some 300 voices grouped into four sections (Peque, Infantil, Joven y Titular), he has created within the organization several instrumental groups with clear orchestral vocation among which stands out the Youth Orchestra, which today is consolidated as the first musical group of municipal ownership.
