More environmental control of products used and waste management, in addition to an increase in the current staff, are some of the novelties of the new contract for cleaning of buildings and municipal buildings of the City of Murcia awarded today by the Board of Government, at the proposal of the Contracting Bureau.

The service, under the direction of the Department of Development, directed by Roque Ortiz, affects a total of 349 municipal centers, which receive a treatment adapted to their use, and represent 215,952.07 square meters.

These buildings include the most important administrative buildings, such as the Glorieta, Anexo, Abenarabí or Plaza de Europa, but also cultural centers, libraries, auditoriums, centers for the elderly and women or youth.

Only the schools and sports facilities are left out, whose management is carried out independently.

Among the improvements that are incorporated is the fulfillment of two plans of quality control and environmental control.

With regard to the latter, it is important to emphasize the obligation to use only products with a green label (ecolabel), as well as comply with a strict waste management plan and the use of electric or gas vehicles for the provision of the service.

In terms of quality control, a computer program will be available for incident management, in order to be able to respond with greater agility and efficiency.

Of the five companies that participated in the competition, the award has been made by Actúa, Servicios y Medio Ambiente SL, which must be subrogated to the workers who rendered the service until now.

In addition, and since its offer included a greater number of service hours per year with respect to the specifications, the workforce will be expanded by an equivalent of 13 people.

The contract begins to be in force on 1 October and is awarded for a period of three years, with the possibility of extension for a maximum of three more.

The amount amounts to € 13.6 M (excluding VAT), which is a drop of 15.1% compared to the bid price.
