Plaza de Santo Domingo will recover more than 330 square meters of pedestrian space after the rearrangement of the terraces (08/09/2017)

The Governing Board has given approval to the project of rearrangement of terraces in the Plaza de Santo Domingo, once resolved the allegations presented, thus allowing a greater space for the pedestrian in coexistence with the various hospitality businesses in the area.

The aim is to reconcile the different terraces and hotel business, with the traffic of pedestrians, carts and ambulances to this square, taking care of the aesthetics and urban quality of the municipality and complying with the existing laws.

It will also facilitate the permeability and traffic in the square that is currently hampered by the location of various terraces and high occupancy, improving access to and from the entrance and facilitating pedestrian traffic.

This action is performed because the Plaza de Santo Domingo is an emblematic enclave in which are unique elements and need of a special protection from the point of view of the quality of the urban landscape, as the ficus more ancestor of that this municipality disposes , the Church of the Dominicans, declared of Cultural Interest, and protected buildings with different categories, such as the Cerdá house.

In addition, the entire environment of Plaza Santo Domingo is declared of Cultural Interest by the General Directorate of Cultural Property of the Autonomous Community.

Protection against noise

This way, the City will redistribute the spaces adopting the special measures from the point of view of the protection of the urban landscape, the protection of the right to the neighborhood rest against noise, to improve accessibility to the squares and buildings of people with mobility reduced and rest of pedestrians, and make compatible the leisure, the activity of hospitality and catering.

In order to carry out this action, the spaces that are currently occupied with terraces, both tables and chairs, as well as the shade elements, as well as the length of the facade front to the Plaza, the corner or non-corner location have been studied in detail. local, woodland and existing urban furniture and limited rotation of vehicles accessing private garages

At present, there are 19 places in the plaza that have 186 tables and, with this reorganization, will be allowed to place 106 tables, which will be reduced by 44%.

More space for pedestrians

This will recover more than 330 square meters of pedestrian space.

The approximate maximum period for the removal of unauthorized items is three months, since the relevant administrative procedures must now be carried out.

The square of Santo Domingo is the second one of the urban area that is reordered, after the performance realized this summer in the place of Europe where, after carrying out a detailed study the occupation of the terraces was reduced by 20%, going from 60 to 45 tables approximately.

The next places in which the terraces will be reorganized will be the Christ of the Rescue and Christ of the Risen One.
