CONSUMUR denounces the lack of safety on the river boat trips offered free during the Murcia Fair (05/09/2017)

The Murcia Association of Consumers and Consumers CONSUMUR, after knowing the operation of the service provided by the company El Tío de la Barca, on pleasure boat trips on the river, and that during the Fair of Murcia is offered free, carried out without minimum safety conditions for citizens and fails to meet some of the requirements required by the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura, responsible for authorizing the service, to exercise navigation in the area of the Segura Hydrographic Basin.

CONSUMUR, which has directly verified the facts, will submit a complaint with the irregularities detected to the company El Tío de la Barca, as well as to the Segura Hydrographic Confederation, in order to ensure greater control and inspection of the service that is lending, and the City of Murcia, which has framed this activity in the programming of the Murcia Fair, and is therefore also responsible for ensuring the adequate quality and safety of it.

The Segura Hydrographic Confederation requires every company that carries out a commercial activity of this type to fulfill a model of responsible declaration in which they detail the minimum requirements that must be met to ensure the adequate provision of the service.

Among these requirements, it is stated that "it is essential for all users of the boat to know how to swim", as well as "not allowed to sail to children under six years, in the case of children between 6 and 10 years should go on all accompanied by an adult. "

It should be noted that El Tío de la Barca, on his website (www.eltiodelabarca.com), in the section "FAQ", indicates that you can climb the boat without knowing how to swim and, if you ask , have life jackets.

Likewise, it provides the service to all citizens, although in the case of minors, they must be accompanied by adults.

However, it does not limit access for children under six years of age.

For CONSUMUR, the most worrying fact is that users, who navigate on their own, are not obliged to wear a lifejacket and limit their willingness to request it.

"The vessels will be provided with the necessary safety and rescue elements for the occupants (life jackets and life buoyers, acoustic and luminous signals, etc.) in accordance with current regulations ...", says the CHS.

The organization considers that, although it is not specified that the user has to wear the vest, in these cases, common sense must be given priority and safety of users, regardless of the type of boat.

Lastly, the organization urges consumers and users who wish to receive more information on this subject, or on another consumer issue, that go to CONSUMUR, in person, or through the Consumer and User Attention Telephone 968 22 30 82. More information at www.consumur.org.
