Iberdrola completes the dismantling of the high voltage airline of El Palmar (04/09/2017)

Eleven electric towers with a length of 2.3 kilometers have been dismantled, "responding to a historic claim of the residents of El Palmar," said José Ballesta.

The company will also dismantle the high and medium voltage lines that run next to the area of Los Rectores in Espinardo.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with Councilor for Development, Roque Ortiz, Iberdrola delegate in the Region of Murcia, Patricio Valverde, and Iberdrola Distribution Area Director in the Region, César Calomarde, supervised the final works of the dismantling of the high voltage electric power line in El Palmar, carried out by the electric company.

In total, the company has dismantled eleven electric towers with a length of 2.3 kilometers of this high-voltage overhead power line of 132 kilovolts, which ran through the urban center of the hamlet of El Palmar.

The operatives have withdrawn today the last bases of the towers.

Mayor José Ballesta said that "these works respond to a historic claim of the residents of El Palmar and reduce the visual impact of electrical installations, which have been buried.

The new equipment uses state-of-the-art technology, which also improves the reliability of the electric power supply. "

In this way, the company fulfills another landmark of the so-called Plan Murcia, in which it will invest more than 40 million euros, with the aim of providing the city with state-of-the-art electricity distribution facilities, security and capacity to meet the growing energy supply needs of Murcia.

This plan includes, among other actions, the construction of a new 'Murcia' electrical substation in the southern part of the city - already completed and pending its connection to the distribution network - as well as the dismantling of the high- runs through the urban area of El Palmar.

In addition, once the new substation and its high-voltage underground feeder line are in service, the company will start the dismantling of the high and medium voltage lines running close to the Los Rectores area - three lines of 132 kilovolts, one of 66 kilovolts, and twelve lines of 20 kilovolts, after the obtaining of the pertinent permissions and authorizations.

These actions, which Iberdrola develops through its distribution subsidiary, are the result of the agreement signed with the City of Murcia, unanimously approved by all municipal groups of the Consistory.

New substation 'Murcia' in the south

The new substation 'Murcia' in the south uses state-of-the-art compaction technology, which significantly reduces the space it occupies and, therefore, its visual impact.

This infrastructure has been connected to the existing one in El Palmar by means of a new high voltage line at 220 kilovolts in subway - which has already been built as well - and which has allowed to ring (connect) both electrical substations.

Thanks to the construction of this new underground line to 220 kilovolts, Iberdrola has been able to undertake the start of the dismantling of the high voltage line to 132 kilovolts of the urban area of El Palmar, which will run through new underground vials that have also been already finalized.

Once connected the electrical substations of El Palmar-Murcia-Espinardo, through the corresponding lines of very high voltage, the possible incidences in the network can be supplied with an alternative power supply, thus improving the reliability of the electricity supply.
