Ballesta claims the "Murcian identity" in a diverse and united Spain (02/09/2017)

The mayor had words of support for the victims of the Barcelona bombing and their families: "From Murcia we want to tell the terrorists that our freedom and that of our children is not played."

The Pregón of the Fair was a dialogue between medieval Murcia and the city of our days, between La Catedral and El Moneo, through music, interpretation and light, in the largest stage installed to date in Belluga

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, last night claimed the "Murcian identity" in a single Pregón that was a tribute to Murcia and especially to its districts and that, for the first time, agglutinated the music and the interpretation in a dialogue between the Murcia by Alfonso X El Sabio and the 21st century.

"It is time to definitively regain confidence in ourselves and face the future without complexes.

We must strive to overcome the terrible lack of self-esteem that we have suffered Murcia for centuries, because who loses its roots loses its identity.

"Identity is what we are today, and Murcia, like Spain is a mosaic of plurality, multiple origins but fortunate unity in diversity.

No one will advance or progress with illegal or empty jumps, with slamming doors to history and coexistence, "he said.

"Our roots are here, among the fronds of the Malecón, in the mulberry trees and cane fields of the orchard, in the brilliance of the cliffs with lights ripped from the sun, in the subtle carnality of the air of Murcia," said the mayor.

Murcia with the victims of Barcelona

The mayor had words of affection and support to the director of the gang of Guadalupe, José Ibáńez Barrachina, who on Tuesday lost his son of barely three months in a tragic traffic accident and ended his speech reminding the victims of the terrorist attack in Barcelona and the national anthem as closure, as a sign of respect and unity.

"Two weeks ago, the murderous fanaticism hit us again with cruel harshness.

From here, from Murcia, we want to tell the terrorists that our freedom and that of our children is not played.

That the Spanish people united and demolishing their previous walls already overcame the terrorism of another sign that hit us for many years and we will do it again, "he said.

A dialogue between the Murcia of Alfonso X and the one of the 21st century

The Pregón was a dialogue between medieval Murcia and the city of our days, between La Catedral and El Moneo, through music, interpretation and light, which had as main protagonists 250 musicians of the Plectrum and Guitar Orchestra dePuente Tocinos, Musical Society The Muses of Guadalupe, Youth Musical Group of Cabezo de Torres and Musical Group of Beniaján, who climbed the largest stage installed to date in Plaza Belluga.

The figure of Alfonso X el Sabio, represented by an actor, talked with the bands of music from the terrace of the Moneo to, later, to cross the square and to interact with the public.

Thousands of Murcia gathered in Belluga Square and this year, for the first time, also in La Glorieta, where the City Hall installed a giant screen from which it was possible to follow all the Pregón of the Fair in direct.

In addition, the show could be seen all over the world 'in streaming'.

The finishing touch of the night put it the interpretation of 'La Parranda'.
