The City of Murcia, awarded with a Seal of Quality by the European Union (02/09/2017)

The European Union has awarded the City of Murcia a Seal of Quality in recognition of the implementation and management of projects at European level marked by good practices.

These are projects that the European Union considers to have reached or exceeded its goal, once the results have been proven, and which must be shared with other cities.

The call from URBACT, the European learning and exchange program for integrated sustainable urban development, sought to gather these good practices at European level and had wide participation at both national and other levels, with the participation of 25 the 28 members.

The City of Murcia, through its European Programs service, the Department of Employment, Tourism and Culture, wanted to highlight the URBAN Espiritu Santo project, considered exemplary by the process of citizen participation, urban revitalization and social unrest, as well as having a high degree of replicability.

The evaluation committee of URBACT highlighted a number of vital elements of the project that perfectly fit the integrated sustainable urban development programs, and decided to include the City of Murcia among those selected to be awarded the prestigious seal of quality 'Good Practice Label 'from URBACT.

The Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, expressed his satisfaction with the award and recognition of good management of the City of Murcia.

"When a city accesses project funding for the European Union, integrity and human teams make projects achieve their intended ends, and creates a moral obligation to share our experiences with our European counterparts."

"This award is equivalent to obtaining international recognition of Murcia as a city, and the City Council as a good manager, facilitating it serve as an example to follow by other cities that encounter problems that Murcia has a possible solution," said Pacheco

According to the councilman, "the relevance of this type of initiatives is that cities are increasingly similar, and that public administration will face the same complexities here in Murcia as in Prague, Copenhagen or Rome. allows us to identify common problems to implement joint solutions ".

The official award ceremony will take place on 3 October in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, coinciding with the presidency of the EU Council, from 1 July to 31 December 2017.
