Now Murcia demands explanations for the great olmeda of 30 copies that can be devastated by the works of a link to the motorway of the Reguerón (25/08/2017)

Now Murcia has required documentation of the environmental impact statement of the motorway and its branch that is being built towards the large olmeda existing at the entrance of Beniaján from San José de la Vega, and next to the future green rail corridor

Now Murcia has approached the Ministry of Development requesting information about the great olmeda existing in Beniaján, and that can be devastated by a link to the Reguerón motorway that is being built in the area, despite the thirty adult specimens and in Good state of conservation, as can be observed still.

The municipal formation has asked the Government of Spain for a copy of the Declaration of Environmental Impact of said motorway and its links, since "it can not be understood that the only solution that is always given with the infrastructures in Murcia is to destroy the cultural heritage and Natural of the municipality, making disappear the unique elements of his millenarian orchard ".

Now Murcia has made several visits to the area, verifying that the works of this link, which has been designed and built in direct direction to this olmeda, example of woodland of riverside, located in the left margin of the Ditch of Beniaján, channel of irrigation that continues in use and by which today an important amount of water circulated.

From this municipal group it is also remembered that this olmeda, formed by about 30 elm trees of considerable size, that surpass in some points the 5 floors of height of near buildings, is protected by the Decree 50/2003, in which the Special value that has this type of trees for the Huerta de Murcia.

From now on Murcia have requested the reports and studies of the accesses to the Reguerón motorway, to verify if the existence of this unique olmeda was documented and evaluated or was obviated in the official documentation to be able to construct the access to the mentioned infrastructure.
