The Councilor for Traffic and Public Safety, Lola Sánchez, held this morning a meeting with the leaders of the University of Almeria in order to begin studying and analyze the seismic risk and prepare the Local Seismic Risk Action Plan in the term Municipal of Murcia.

The University of Almería has been the winner of this service that will have to be carried out within 30 months and in 4 phases.

The first phase that corresponds to Murcia capital and bordering districts of Espinardo, El Puntal, Cabezo de Torres, Churra, Santiago and Zaraíche, Zarandona, Tocinos Bridge, Santiago El Mayor and San Pío, will have to be carried out within 18 months.

Phase two consists of the districts of the southern coast, phase 3 of the districts of the orchard and phase four of the camp districts.

At the head of the work team of the University of Almería is Professor Manuel Navarro Bernal, PhD in Physical Sciences and coordinator of the Research Group of Applied Geophysics of the UAL, who has participated actively in the Analysis of Seismic Risk in Andalusia , As well as in the determination of the urban seismic risk of the cities of Granada, Adra and Lorca.

Professor Navarro will direct the work of the different groups that participate together with the University of Almería in this study of seismic risk, such as the company Geolyder with the participation of two doctors in physical sciences, a doctor in geology, a doctor in engineering Geographer and Architect, and an Architect specializing in seismic vulnerability.

In addition the team will have a doctor in Mining Engineering belonging to the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, and a doctor in physical sciences, a doctor in Industrial Engineering, a doctor in Applied Informatics Degree in Physical Sciences, and a Technical Architect and Building Engineer Of the University of Alicante.

Until the next month of October, the work will be carried out on the collection of seismic data and cartographic, geological, geophysical and population data.

Subsequently, in the next 10 months, the seismicity and tectonics of the municipality will be studied, the geological and geophysical microzonation will be carried out, the vulnerability of the buildings will be studied and the seismic damage scenarios will be defined and the Local Risk Action Plan Seismic.

The main objective of the plan is to know the seismic hazard in the Municipality of Murcia, to estimate the vulnerability of buildings, infrastructures and services, and to provide a rapid and effective response to minimize possible damages to people, property and the environment. To provide, with a municipal organization, the means and resources, material and human, that could be required for assistance and protection to the population in the event of a seismic catastrophe affecting the municipality of Murcia.

The basic functions of the plan are:

- To determine the seismic risk in the municipal area, starting from the Analysis and study of Seismic Risk realized, with the estimates of danger and vulnerability.

- Zoning the municipality according to the seismic risk and delimiting areas of possible intervention and action in emergencies.

- Establish the organizational and functional structure for the earthquake intervention.

- Establish mechanisms for coordination and coordination with the State and Regional Seismic Plan and the Municipal Emergency Plan.

- Establish intervention measures in case of seismic emergency.

- Establish activation and response procedures.

With Phase 1, which will last 18 months, the Local Action Plan will be developed for the affected populations and, in a generic way, will be applied to the rest of the municipality in its structure, operation and organization.

This is intended to have such a plan as soon as possible in order to be able to implement it in the event of an earthquake emergency.

Subsequently, with the achievement of the different phases, the plan will be completed for final approval.
