The PSOE calls for the expansion and redistribution of professional resources for Social Services (18/08/2017)

The spokeswoman of the Socialist Municipal Group, Susana Hernández, has denounced this Friday "the lack of professional resources for Social Services in the City of Murcia."

According to Hernández, "At present, procedures such as those related to the Dependency Law take months to be solved since, with the current staff and the number of cases registered, the reports take a long time to complete, when in a month they should be ready ".

"The Social Service professionals are overloaded, trying to best serve the needs of the users, but being overwhelmed by the amount of work received," said the mayor.

"The City of Murcia has an obligation to ensure the most vulnerable Murcia and Murcia, putting at their disposal all the resources and personnel necessary to serve them properly. In this sense, we demand that Ballesta and his team to expand and redistribute the workforce Of professionals of Social Services to allow a better attention to the users ".

Out of date appointments

The spokeswoman of the Socialist Group also criticized "the lack of coordination between the different administrations, which causes, coupled with the lack of staff and resources, there are Murcia and Murcia that can not manage their aid in a timely manner."

Thus, Susana Hernández has referred to the letters that in the last weeks are receiving hundreds of users to formalize their application for the Basic Income of Insertion: "These people are with a letter in which they are told that they have ten days to Carry out a series of procedures before Social Services, but when calling this municipal service, the appointment always exceeds fifteen days or three weeks, so they are already out of time to request the help. "

"You can not understand how there is so little coordination between the City of Murcia and the Autonomous Community, and how it is intended that Murcia and Murcia can claim their aid if there are no appointments available within the deadline given by the Administration itself. Shameful. "

For this reason, the socialist spokesperson has insisted on the imperative need to increase the professional resources allocated to Social Services as well as work on the redistribution of them for a better functioning.

"No municipal service should fail the citizens, but if there is one that is essential to function properly by its degree of importance, it is Social Services, and the PP can not claim to transfer that responsibility only and exclusively to the current professionals, who already suffer An overload, "he concluded.
