The PSOE demands to the PP forceful measures before the increases of the air pollution (08/08/2017)

He recalled that six months ago a motion was adopted calling for an evaluation study of the urban area of Murcia to install new measuring stations and improve existing ones

The Municipal Socialist Group calls on the Government team, the PP, strong measures to monitor and respond to increases in air pollution in Murcia and thus comply with the motion unanimously approved six months ago in that regard, says the councilman Enrique Ayuso.

He also recalls that, as Ecologistas en Acción has reported, "ozone levels have exceeded the maximum recommended rates in 31 occasions in the San Basilio station and 43 times in the Alcantarilla-Murcia, which means increases of more than 300 per cent so far this year compared to 2016 in the metropolitan area of Murcia. "

Ayuso warns that "the Autonomous Community's own air monitoring network warns that maximum ozone values (above 120μg / m3) should not be more than 25 days in each year and that the San Basilio station (NOx, NO2 and NO) concentrations of the entire air quality network of the Region of Murcia "and adds that the concentrations of smaller particles suspended in the air (PM10) are also higher Higher in 2017 compared to the same time period of 2016.

Therefore, it requires compliance with the approved motion, and "which has no news despite the poor air quality data recorded by the stations located in the area of Murcia," in which it was proposed to request The Ministry of Environment a study as soon as possible of evaluation of the area "urban agglomeration of Murcia" in order to determine the installation of new measuring stations approved within the municipality.

"But neither is there any news about the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Autonomous Community for the improvement of the network of stations in Murcia, nor for the elaboration of a short-term action plan that establishes the measures to be carried out In situations of worrying levels of pollution, such as the cases that have been denounced, "says the Socialist councilor.

It also notes that the World Health Organization has warned that ozone levels above the maximum allowed can affect the respiratory system of people, especially the most sensitive as children, elderly and people with respiratory diseases.

Enrique Ayuso points out that "it is known that the origin of this problem is mainly in the emissions originated by the traffic, the industries and the heating, reason why effective measures are necessary for a reduction of the air pollution, as the reduction and pacificación Of motorized traffic, creation of zones 30, more sustainable mobility and improvement of public transport and promotion of the bicycle, network of deterrent car parks or greater pressure to the industrial activity in the polygons to control and limit their pollutant emissions, among other solutions ".

However, the councilman acknowledges that "we can do little if we are faced with the scarcity of reliable data on air pollutants in our municipality and the lack of an immediate plan of action in the face of pollution episodes."
