The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the Councilors of Modernization of Administration, José Guillén, and Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, visited today the Adapted Summer School of Terra Natura, where fifty children with disabilities have the Opportunity to practice zoo-therapy with sea lions and other animals such as dogs, lemurs, giraffes, raptors or gamos.

Assisted therapy with sea lions is an intervention where a multidisciplinary team of therapists plan and execute a series of exercises with physiotherapeutic, pisco-social and logopedic objectives, in order to enhance the capacities of the users through interaction with the lion Marine and aquatic environments.

It is a holistic therapy that is highly motivating and rewarding for both students and therapists and their families.

This year school began on Monday, July 3 and ends in August.

About 50 students participated in the study, ranging from 3 years to 35 years.

Of these, four children have had the opportunity to attend scholarships, two by the City of Murcia and two others by the Centauro Quiron Foundation.

Today two disabled people belonging to vulnerable families have joined the Summer School thanks to two scholarships offered by the City of Murcia.

Both young people, accompanied by the rest of their companions, have participated for the first time in the therapy with sea lions in a natural environment and from a ludic-educational approach

Adapted Summer School: Assertiveness and Confidence

The adapted Summer School project is aimed at all those people who, with some physical, psychic, sensory, language disorders, developmental disorders, mental illness or problems of social integration, require a comprehensive treatment that facilitates their Personal, physical, cognitive, relational and / or social development.

Among the objectives sought are to promote verbal and non-verbal communication, as well as contact with other people and animals, promote psychomotor skills, promote a healthy use of free time during the vacation period, promote respect and environmental conservation, and Reinforce individual and group values ​​such as social skills, assertiveness, confidence, security, autonomy or self-confidence.
