The Debating Club of the University of Murcia (UMU) has been ranked among the 25 best in the world in the Championship held in Guatemala, where one of its members also managed to become a semifinalist in the speech contest.
The UMU Debating Club was integrated in this World Championship by its president, Manuel García Durán, a law student, and by Edgar Tomás Arroyo Navarro, an economics student.
The Murcia representation had to participate in matters as diverse as the removal of the custody to the deaf parents who reject the cochlear implant for their children also deaf or the possibility to support an NGO that is dedicated to facilitate the passage of irregular immigrants by the borders.
The next edition of the Championship will be held in 2018 in Valparaíso (Chile).
