The process of rehabilitation of La Paz advances with the presentation to the political groups of a map of the social reality (25/07/2017)

The councilor of Urbanism, Garden and Environment, Antonio Navarro, chaired this morning the meeting of the Bureau of the Neighborhood of La Paz in which have been present representatives of different political groups of the City of Murcia.

Along with him were also the councilors Lola Sanchez and Conchita Ruiz.

In the last meeting, where the district council, professional associations, neighbors and political groups were present, the table for the rehabilitation project of the Barrio de la Paz was established and it was agreed to set the criteria for social recovery in collaboration with The services of Social Rights, Urbanism and Housing.

Antonio Navarro has transmitted, after approval by the Governing Board, the project that will allow teams of architects, technical architects and building engineers to carry out a diagnosis of the state of conservation of the buildings in the neighborhood of La Paz, which affect 1,502 homes.

They will count for a period of 8 months, from the date of approval of the agreement signed by the City of Murcia with the professional colleges of Architects (COAMU) and Aparejadores, Arquitectos Técnicos y Ingenieros de Edificación (COAATIEMU).

In addition, the Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, has reported on the steps taken in the preparation of a map that allows to know the realities of the neighborhood for the subsequent implementation of a project of social intervention in the Polygon of Peace.

At present, 4,641 people live in this neighborhood of the capital, of which 38% do not have basic education, 18% have primary education and 29% have completed secondary education.

Unemployment in this area amounts to 22% and consists mainly of men aged between 25 and 44 years.

The largest number of foreign population is between 30-34 years (283), coming to equate with the Spanish (291).

The technicians of the Department of Social Rights have detected an important presence of marginal economy in the neighborhood, with a feeling of high insecurity of the citizen, lack of resources and social facilities of city, or neighborhood reference entities.

This is compounded by the constant loss of standardized population, increases in absenteeism and school drop-out rates, overcrowding and deterioration of housing or community and urban spaces, or lack of coexistence among resident groups.

All this translates into a lack of commercial appeal and service for the rest of the population.

On the contrary, they emphasize the continuous presence and recognition by the population of the municipal social services, the implementation of work in network with social organizations, as well as a continued presence of social projects directed to young people and children of the neighborhood.

Precisely the work with the young population, and its important presence, added to the impulse that from the City of Murcia has been projected to improve the conditions of the neighborhood, constitute a motor group for the reactivation of the Polygon of Peace.

Absenteeism and school dropout.

To this will be added actions foreseen in the PRAE of the educational centers and the diversification of the educational reinforcement.
