The Hall of Mayors will remember the 232 corregidores that the city has had throughout its history (21/07/2017)

The project is launched after a full year of events commemorating the 750th anniversary of the creation of the Council.

Murcia thus joins other Spanish capitals that have in their town halls an emblematic place that reminds the people who have led the future of local life for more than 600 years.

The Governing Board has today awarded the works, which will convert this space into a reception room, meetings or exhibitions.

The City of Murcia will create a Hall of Mayors in which will remind all people who have held this responsibility throughout history.

The project is launched after a full year of events commemorating the 750th anniversary of the creation of the Council of Murcia.

The works have been awarded today by the Governing Board and its implementation will allow the transformation of this space, located in the hall of the Plenary Hall, in reception rooms, meetings or exhibitions, incorporating in its decoration the relationship of the names of Corregidores and Mayors of Murcia from its origins.

In total, 262 names will be reproduced, starting in 1394, with Corregidor Ruy Méndez de Sotomayor.

The title of Mayor does not appear until 1820, with Miguel González-Zamorano Escámez, number 125 of the relationship.

The creation of the Hall of Mayors is a way to record the history of the city through those who have been in charge of the Municipal Corporation throughout its history.

In addition, for this purpose, the prelude to the Plenary Hall, which is the heart of the municipal activity, is the scene of decision-making that in one way or another conditions the future of the city.

Murcia thus joins other Spanish capitals, such as Madrid and Bilbao, among others, which have a Hall of Mayors in the headquarters of their town councils, where they reserve an emblematic place to remember the names of people who have led the future of the Local life along more than 600 years of the history of the municipality.

The area affected by the intervention is located in the main area of the building, next to the Plenary Hall and the Town Hall, with access from the imperial staircase or from the secondary side staircase, both leaving from the main entrance to the building, in Glorieta .

The works affect only the interior, consisting exclusively of the replacement of the existing coatings of walls, floors and ceilings (zone of integral action) or only in the punctual repair of these coatings (punctual area of action).

The fundamental purpose is to remodel the area to renew and dignify its current obsolete image, while in the case of the Reception Hall, it can be dedicated to meetings or exhibitions, incorporating in its decoration the relationship of the names of the Corregidores and Mayors of Murcia, from its origins, at the end of the fourteenth century, to the present, allowing the addition of new names.

The Government Board has agreed to award the project to Intagua Public Works, with a budget of € 95,549 and an expected execution term of 3 months.
