Fomento will replace the cobblestone of the Plaza de San Agustín for a more durable and less annoying pavement (21/07/2017)

The Department of Development will undertake the renovation of the current pavement of the Plaza de San Agustín to improve its maintenance and reduce the annoyances caused by noise and vibrations.

The proposal is to replace the current pavement by a continuous pavement with better mechanical characteristics than the current, without changing the aesthetic conditions and current design of the environment.

To do this, the remodeling project envisages replacing the prefabricated concrete pavers with a hot bituminous mix, whose tread layer has a printed surface relief similar to the existing pavement.

Due to the high daily average intensity of vehicles passing through the road, the current material causes instability of the pavement, generates movements in the pavers and causes in some places the ruin of the pavement.

A situation aggravated by being a way used for access to the Bus Station of Murcia and a connecting road between the north and the south of the city.

For all this, the proposed renovation will solve these problems.

It is also worth noting that in the urban environment of the project area, the current St. Augustine square, important monumental buildings are located, such as the Salzillo Museum, composed of the Church of Our Father Jesus Nazareno and the annexed building rebuilt with the facade of the Palacio Riquelme, as well as the Church of San Andrés.

For this reason, and because it is a BIC environment, it has the pertinent authorization of the Autonomous Community.

The Plaza was completely renovated by the architect Yago Bonet, who sought a total regeneration of the urban environment, as well as remarking the representative and ceremonial character of a space that brings together once a year thousands of people who come to contemplate the formation of courtship Processional and the exit of the steps of Salzillo of the church of Jesus.

The project approved by the Government Board for its bidding respects the environment and resolves discomfort and arises with a lead time of approximately one month.
