The City of Murcia already prepares its Sustainable Energy Action Plan to 2030 (11/07/2017)

The City of Murcia, through the Local Energy and Climate Change Agency, has tendered the contract for the implementation of the Sustainable Energy Action Plan of the Municipality of Murcia that will cover from 2018 to 2030, according to The guidelines published in the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, which will mean the reduction of emissions of the municipality by 40% in 2030.

The preparation of this plan will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, and through a participatory process, in which the contributions of the different Stakeholders and citizenship have been collected.

The objective of this contract is to identify, analyze and define the measures to be implemented to reduce emissions by at least 40% compared to 2007. The company in charge of this must draw up a plan that contemplates a days of active citizen participation, a focused In the internal participation of employees and an external one directed to experts.

The deadline for submission of bids ends on the 25th.

This means continuing to fight against climate change by meeting European objectives, creating a greener economy or cleaner air, among others.

The Municipality of Murcia joined last year the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, a European movement involving local authorities who have voluntarily committed to improving energy efficiency and using renewable energy sources in their territories.

Under this commitment, the signatories of the Pact have set themselves the goal of the European Union to reduce CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030.

Driven by the achievement of CO2 emission reduction targets for 2020, where by 2015 there was a reduction of 24.5% in the municipality of Murcia, a figure above 20% committed to 2020, Murcia City Council wants to launch a new and relevant plan of measures for the period 2018-2030.

Antonio Navarro Corchón, Councilor for the Environment, said: "It is time to implement a new medium- to long-term savings plan, which will allow the City Council to reduce its energy bill, its emissions and actively help the private sector to establish and Achieve energy optimization targets under the current energy cost growth scenario.
