Murcia initiates the pilot tests of the intelligent management of the city with the installation of the first sensors (06/07/2017)

I Meeting of Smart Cities 'Murcia Smart'.

The City Council, in collaboration with the UMU, launches Smart City's testing platform and initiates pilot experiences in services such as public transport, traffic situation or availability of parking spaces.

CEUS (the Single Monitoring Center) will monitor 100 city indicators through the information provided by sensors installed at strategic points that will provide information in real time.

The City of Murcia has begun pilot tests for the 'intelligent' management of the city within the technology project 'MiMurcia', a progressive implementation plan to three years, with a total budget of 8 million euros, which has received the largest Financing of Spain in the last call of the Program of Intelligent Cities of Red.es, entity dependent of the Secretary of State for the Information Society of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism.

This has been confirmed this morning by Mayor Jose Ballesta, who has participated in the First Meeting of Smart Cities 'Murcia Smart', together with the Minister of Finance and Public Administration, Andrés Carrillo, and the director of the newspaper La Verdad, Alberto Aguirre.

In collaboration with the University of Murcia, the City Council has deployed the Smart City test platform to carry out pilot experiments in services such as public transport (buses, tram and bicycles), traffic situation, energy consumption in municipal buildings or Availability of parking spaces.

"This is a 'laboratory test' at the technological level with which we are testing the collection of information in real time of the different services of the city and its integration, demonstrating the reliability and efficiency of this system, which is the germ of The Smart City platform, "explained the mayor.

The municipal building of Abenarabi will be the site where the Smart City platform will be deployed, which will be integrated in the Single Monitoring Center (CEUS), the neuralgic and intelligence axis of the entire project.

From CEUS will be monitored and processed all the information, offering a real-time analysis of the state of the municipality and the different services.

"It will be the brain of the city, a control center in which urgent measures can be evaluated in situations of crisis or emergency, while it will be a technological demonstration space open to all citizens," said José Ballesta.

This next September Red.es entity, dependent of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, will begin the procedure for the contracting of the project of implantation of the platform Smart Murcia that will be deployed in the CEUS.

100 indicators for intelligent management of the city

The 'engine' of this platform Smart City is the CPD (Data Processing Center), which will be composed of six super servers with a storage that supposes an increase of one third the current capacity of the computer systems of the City Council -, doing Real-time monitoring of 100 indicators for the city's intelligent management is possible.

Sensors installed in strategic points will provide the Murcia with information that they can use in a personalized way, through new Apps that will be developed in the coming months.

At the same time, they will benefit from new services such as increased coverage of the public Wi-Fi network in the city, real-time information on available parking spaces, information panels on traffic conditions, video surveillance systems, parks and gardens , Smart pedestrian crossings, etc.

As a pilot, the City Council has already begun to install some of these smart sensors, coinciding with the DNA project of the neighborhood of Santa Eulalia, where a new intelligent lighting system is being tested, a smart irrigation system, open wifi In the Plaza de Europa and the first step of intelligent pedestrians.

In total, the project 'MiMurcia' contemplates the installation of the following technological devices:

· 33 new nodes for the extension of coverage of the Wifi network.

· 50 IP cameras for the improvement of traffic management.

· 20 surveillance cameras in parks and gardens.

· 54 Bluetooth beacons for boosting local commerce.

· 10 intelligent irrigation systems with parks and gardens.

· 15 intelligent lighting systems in streets, squares, parks and gardens.

· 4 new digital information points.

· 25 new intelligent parking meters that send information in real time.

· 25 smart parking spaces for people with reduced mobility.

· 4 new smart pedestrian crossings.

"Intelligent management of cities, the 'Smart' model applied to the public sphere, has a priority and essential objective: to put these technological advances at the service of people to improve their quality of life and the benefits of public services that Receive, "said José Ballesta.

Web portals and Apps at the service of Murcia

Open data web portals will also be implemented to promote participation and transparency), as well as mobile citizen collaboration applications, parking assistance and guidance, etc.

The first of these mobile applications that has already launched the City Council is the TuMurcia App, the participation tool with which the neighbors make their suggestions and communicate the incidents they detect in their neighborhood or hamlet.

The Citizen Assistance Service receives the notification and transfers it to the competent Municipal Area, so that action is taken as soon as possible.

The next application to be launched is the Unique Event Platform of Murcia, a cultural and leisure portal reference in the municipality, which the City Council has developed in collaboration with the UMU and will be presented this July.
