The public universities of the Region of Murcia: the University of Murcia (UMU) and the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) inaugurate the edition of the Summer Scientific Campus of 2017.

The event was held at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, which hosted the event this year and was chaired by the UPCT's rector, Alejandro Díaz Morcillo, Vice-rector for Research at UPCT, Beatriz Miguel, the Vice-Rector for Coordination and Internationalization of the UMU , Bernardo Cascales, Scientific Culture coordinator of the UPCT, José Luis Serrano and the coordinator of the Mare Nostrum Campus from UMU, Pilar Garrido.

In addition, the inauguration has been attended by other authorities of the University of Murcia as María Cristina Sánchez López, Communication coordinator and José Manuel López Nicolás, coordinator of the Scientific Culture Unit.

The first 30 young participants, from 11 different communities, listened during the inauguration to the advice of these experienced researchers, full of enthusiasm and desire to be scientifically trained in the university's laboratories and also to enjoy a program full of leisure activities.

These Campuses will host throughout the month of July to 120 students of 4 ° of ESO and 1 ° of Bachillerato interested in science and technology of the whole country.

This activity is a strong commitment to the promotion of scientific vocations, students will come into direct contact with the daily work of university researchers, for which they will have the support of teachers of Secondary Education Institutes in the Region of Murcia.

In this edition the University of Murcia participates through the External Service of Forensic Sciences and Techniques (SECYTEF) with the project "The scientific resolution of crimes: the importance of Forensic Sciences".

For its part, the UPCT has designed three projects that are "The mystery of the light of the stars", "The sustainable transport of the future from the energy of the Sun" and "Water in civil engineering applied to urban development".
