Man Project serves more than 1,500 people in 2016 (03/07/2017)

The initial information and orientation program of the Foundation covered 16.95% more people than in 2015. The outpatient treatment program, aimed at working people, increased its number of users by 15.38%.

The number of attentions of the program directed to young people and adolescents, mainly by consumption of cannabis, grew 20%.

Proyecto Hombre Murcia today presented its annual report of activities in the Region of Murcia during the year 2016. The event was attended by the Mayor José Ballesta, the President of the Foundation Solidarity and Reinsertion Foundation, Tomás Zamora Ros, Murcia, Asunción Santos de Pascual, and the general director of Health and Addictions, José Carlos Vicente López.

The report highlights the variety of problems and people that are dealt with in Project Man: a total of 1,539 users in the various information and treatment programs.

It also includes the work done in the programs for the prevention of addictions that are carried out in schools and other organizations, reaching more than 5,600 people.

José Ballesta showed "the more than 20 years of unconditional work of Proyecto Hombre at the service of Murcia society and his expert work both in prevention and in the treatment of addictions, always putting above the dignity of the human being" and Added that "from the City of Murcia we will continue the close collaboration that we maintain with this institution of reference that, in a quiet, generous and altruistic way, provides an indispensable work for our society."

Through the initial information and orientation program, aimed at providing advice to anyone who requests it, Proyecto Hombre served a total of 683 people, a 16.95% increase over the previous year.

It is "a first attention, a contact, with those people and families who sometimes do not know where to go and find in this program someone who listens to them and guides them," explained Asunción Santos.

Within the treatment programs, the most demanded during the year 2016 has been Nocturno, directed to people with problems of addiction who are working and have managed to maintain an adequate personal and family structure.

This program last year assisted 15.39% more people than in 2015.

Another concern highlighted by the director of Project Man is "related to young people and adolescents who begin to have problems of substance use, relationship with family, etc.".

From this institution they are offered a very individualized attention in a specific program, in which the attention to the family is key.

The problem of alcohol

Like other national and international institutions, from Proyecto Hombre, they point to the impact of alcohol consumption, both in their own health and in family and work relations, etc., despite a lower social perception of their problems.

In relation to this issue they emphasize that approximately half of its users have a problem related to alcohol, either by exclusive consumption or by mixing with other substances.

For all this we also work in the field of prevention in different contexts: educational centers, municipalities and businesses, promoting healthy lifestyles and away from problematic use of alcohol and other drugs and / or addictive behaviors.

Interested in prevention

Project Man advocates, once again, for the importance of preventive work as the best way to tackle the problem of addictions.

This concern for prevention has led the Foundation to maintain collaboration with the Ministry of Education and with the Municipalities of Murcia, Molina de Segura, San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar and Torres de Cotillas, for the development of programs of Prevention, reaching almost 4,000 students, 190 teachers and educators and 160 families.

Proyecto Hombre also warns about the incidence of alcohol and other drug use in the work environment, bringing information and prevention programs to the workers' collective.

Throughout this year, the professionals and volunteers of the Foundation have collaborated with several companies and institutions, including the City of Murcia, reaching a total of 1,300 employees.

In this regard, Tomás Zamora stressed "the importance of the employers to be aware of this problem in their companies" and expressed "a double thanks for the support and trust of companies and for the relationships of mutual collaboration in the field Of the prevention that we are securing ".

Along the same lines Zamora also thanked both public administrations and society in general to continue "trusting us and supporting the work that, from the professionalism, we have been doing more than 20 years."
