The Agency for Energy and Climate Change of the Department of Urbanism, Environment and Huerta, led by Antonio Navarro, has collected the concerns and reflections of citizens who participated in the days of participation on Climate Change held yesterday afternoon in The Local Development Agency.
The Citizen Participation Table for Adaptation to Climate Change in Murcia has been attended by groups such as the consumer association Thaderconsumo, the Association of Environment Companies of the Region of Murcia, the Federation of neighborhood associations of the Municipality, The association of environmental education of Murcia, Traperos de Emmaus and numerous individuals, with the aim of enriching the participatory process in the drafting of Adaptation to Climate Change Plan of the Municipality of Murcia.
In previous months, there have been numerous Adaptation Tables for public employees and experts in the five sectors previously identified as the most vulnerable: water, agriculture and garden, health, natural environment and urbanism.
The objective of this broad participatory process has been the elaboration of a document that includes the adaptation measures to Climate Change that are most appropriate for our Municipality.
Issues such as mobility in the municipality, the construction of new bike lanes in Murcia Center and neighborhoods and the improvement of public transport service and clean in pedanias have been pointed out by the attendees.
There has also been reflection on energy poverty and how many consumers could reduce their consumption and energy billing if they came the tools and keys on how to do it.
From the public it is perceived that the message of the importance of climate change and, above all, the role played by the citizen has not yet permeated our Region.
The City of Murcia has taken the lead as the first Municipality of the Region that already has its own studies on climate projections and on vulnerability and impacts of Climate Change in resources and socio-economic sectors.
Also at national level, Murcia is one of the few cities that are already advancing in the path of Adaptation to Climate Change.
The Council of Urbanism, Environment and Huerta of the City of Murcia, directed by Antonio Navarro Corchón, has expressed its intention to continue making progress in the fight against climate change in the City of Murcia through participation, transparency and governance .
Antonio Navarro Corchón has insisted that "it is necessary to address the fight against climate change in a coordinated way and through transversal actions such as the one we are carrying out through European initiatives such as the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy."
