CUVI, a university clinic for vision at the service of all (29/06/2017)

The University Clinic of Integral Vision is a UMU service open to all society.

Anyone who wishes can access their services at a reduced rate.

A way to access the best technologies in the Region's vision through a service that congregates the assistance, teaching and research work

Unlike a traditional ophthalmology service, CUVI offers broader features such as optometry or low vision, as well as specialties in visual rehabilitation, contactology, estrabology and support for refractive surgery.

In addition, it is a valuable tool that can be used by students of the Faculty of Optics and Optometry to have the opportunity to approach the real cases that can be found every day in a clinic.

One of your favorite missions is to get the kids to like to go to their appointment with the doctor.

Francisco Lara, an optometrist, says that they even have fans, thanks to the special cabinet where they can play and have fun until they go into consultation.

They consider that it is key for the little ones to want to return and can be attended to properly.

Its philosophy is based on a totally personalized treatment, without hurry, close., And in addition, solidarity.

This non-profit service establishes a symbolic price in its treatments that is subsequently invested in teaching, care and research, such as new diagnostic tools.

There are also numerous support initiatives, for example, right now everyone who wants to go can go to the center and donate the glasses they do not use.

CUVI together with other organizations are responsible for sending them to third world countries where they can be reused.

Following the tradition, one more summer will offer services to Saharawi children who live in the Region during these months and who undergo an ophthalmological review.

The clinic was born more than a decade ago in the old Diploma of Optics, when there were hardly such services within Spanish universities.

She was oriented to the treatment of the low vision, a disciplined one directed to clients with a diminished visual capacity that affects mainly to the retina.

Nowadays, its services have been expanded and every year they try to transfer the investigations that are carried out within the Faculty towards a practical application.

They also have special agreements with some centers in the Region, such as the recent one with the members of the Club Deportiva Infante.

Francisco Lara, head of the Binocular Vision section, recommends that the vision should be reviewed periodically.

The frequency will depend on factors such as age and whether you suffer from any pathology.

The groups that must attend more regularly are students, who spend much of their time in front of screens, who must attend at least once a year;

And people over 40, when they start to start sight problems tired.

For all those who spend much of their time in front of a screen, it advises that in order to avoid harming our vision we must take many breaks, always have good lighting and visual hygiene and work in places that are not very closed where you can relax your eyesight.

In short, common sense.
