The Councilor of Cambiemos Murcia, Margarita Guerrero, has submitted a motion to the plenary session next Thursday asking the City Council to urge the central government to increase the budget allocated to the State Pact against Gender Violence in 2017 in at least , EUR 120 million for actions to prevent gender-based violence and 40 for equal opportunities for men and women.
The total financing of the said Pact is 47.47 million euros according to the proposal of the Executive of Mariano Rajoy, which represents a 0.01 percent of the expenditure of the General State Budget (PGE) for the current year.
A figure that is "ridiculous and insufficient" to deal with this scourge, whose elimination, in the words of Guerrero, "should be a priority for public administrations," especially in the Region of Murcia, which is at the head of the victims Of sexist violence.
The proposal of the municipal training recognizes that not increasing the budget would be to continue without allocating one euro to the prevention in the educational, health and media fields, nor to devote efforts to the attention to the sexual violence required by the Istanbul Convention , To which Spain is subscribed, as well as breach of the regulations regarding legal services in cases of gender violence.
"In order for public policies to eradicate sexist violence and to become a state issue, the budget must increase significantly and the participation of feminist groups must be taken into account.
