A Cervantine Festival with workshops of sculpture, writing, painting and embroidery around the genius of Castilian letters (22/06/2017)

The cultural association 'Hay un tigre atrás de ti' organizes on Saturday morning in Santo Domingo, a tribute to the author of 'Don Quixote' with art workshops open and free for all audiences and levels.

José Ballesta: "This event connects with the cultural policy that has been developing from the City of Murcia, with the aim of opening up the culture to the whole society."

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, attended today the presentation of the Cervantine Festival that the cultural association 'There is a Tiger behind you' has organized for this Saturday in the plaza from Santo Domingo.

The event, which will take place this Saturday, June 24, in the morning, from 11.00 to 14.00, includes four open and free workshops for all audiences and levels (children and adults, beginners and advanced) of sculpture, writing , Painting and embroidery.

The workshops will be held in two shifts: 11.00 and 12.00.

This Cervantes Festival is the culmination of the association 'There is a tiger behind you' closes the Year of Cervantes, which opened last October with the discovery of a bust in honor of the author of 'El Quijote' , Realized by the sculptor lorquino Antonio Soler and that is exhibited in La Merced.

In the coming days the artist lorquino will donate to the City of Murcia the mold of the monument made in bronze and which commemorates the IV Centenary of the death of the writer.

Murcia specialists give workshops

Through the figure of Cervantes, four artists from the Region of Murcia will give notions about techniques of sculpture, painting, writing and embroidery, providing the participants with the necessary material.

The sculptor Antonio Soler will focus his workshop on the work of the bronze, It is focused for apprentices who want to start in the first techniques.

Each participant will make a small work in mud that can be taken home.

Irene Baeza (Lady Dilema) is responsible for the embroidery workshop 'Descosiendo a Cervantes', where she will teach to sew on the participants' own images, engravings or lithographs by Cervantes.

The painter Gaby Guillén, will give the painting workshop 'Pop Art', which will transfer the images of the life and work of Cervantes to the colorful pictorial representations of pop art.

The writer FJ Motos is responsible for the creative writing workshop, which will analyze the structure of the texts, their theme, words, genres, rhythm, construction of the scene, etc.

As a practical example, the participants will write a short essay.

Open culture to society

The mayor said that "this Cervantine Festival is connected with the cultural policy that has been developing from the City of Murcia, with the aim of opening up the culture to the whole society, fleeing intellectual elitism."

"The fact that culture opens to the streets and squares in a popular and free way, does not mean that it loses an apex of excellence or quality," said José Ballesta, who thanked "the generosity and involvement of these artists who Have decided to take a step forward, to share their knowledge in a public square this Saturday.
