Murcia celebrates World Refugee Day with an awareness day with schoolchildren (18/06/2017)

The Platform for Assistance to Refugees in Murcia, in collaboration with the Office of Assistance to Refugees of the Department of Social Rights, organizes activities at the CEIP Juan XXIII, in El Ranero.

Cinema, poetry, gastronomy, music and collection of school material for Syria will serve to bring to Murcia the harsh reality suffered by thousands of people affected by social or armed conflicts.

On June 20, 2017 World Refugee Day is celebrated and the municipality of Murcia will host numerous activities to claim and denounce the role that refugees have today in our society.

The CEIP Juan XXIII del Ranero will hold a day of awareness organized by the Platform for Assistance to Refugees in Murcia (PAREM), with the collaboration of the Office of Assistance to Refugee of the Department of Social Rights, which will feature storytelling for children , Relating to the issue of refugees;

Viewing of videos, shorts and documentaries produced by UNHCR and Amnesty International;

And a workshop of traditional games from different parts of the world.

Students will create creations (postcards, murals, letters) with messages of peace and support to this group.

Also on that day will be a donation to the center and the Regional Library of two paintings of the city of Murcia painted the refugee Dimitri Ponomarenko, when he was at the Red Cross Murcia, donated to the Platform in appreciation for their collaboration.

Other activities of entities

In addition to the above, a set of activities have been prepared that will take place on the 14th of this year in the municipality of Murcia to make visible the conflicts that today are suffering thousands of people in the world who have to leave their home to find a second opportunity.

An information stand located in Plaza de Santo Domingo from 14 to 18 June, by the Accem organization, will share with the neighbors and neighbors of the municipality the reality that armed conflicts are provoking in many countries of the world and the consequences that this causes in their habitants.

On June 19, there will be an Experiences Panel, called "I build bridges, approaching the reality of refugees", will be in the Pedro Arrupe room of the Fontanar Building, in the Arch of Santo Domingo, 2.

On June 20, Refugee Day, the streets of the city of Murcia will host the activity "messages out", organized by Cepaim.

The musical company of a group of refugees will visit the Plaza de Santo Domingo and Calle Trapería, sharing testimonies of life of those who have suffered as a result of armed conflicts.

In the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga, CONGDRM will explain to citizens the importance of consolidating Murcia as a welcoming municipality for those who need it most.

In addition, the film 'Syria: a love story' will be screened in Room A of the Regional Film Library, and within the 'Refugees in the Cinema' cycle organized by Accem.

On Wednesday 21 Oxfam Intermón organizes the screening of the film 'District Zero' in the cafeteria Itaca of Murcia and to be introduced by the director Pablo Tosco.

Finally, on Thursday 22 June, a cultural meeting will take place in the Café Ficciones of the municipality where a documentary will be screened and different testimonies of refugees will be shared, from which a debate will begin on the current situation of these people.

The event will feature musical performances, a recital of poetry and a tasting of gastronomic products from each country represented.

Solidarity concert

To all these organized events must be added the new solidarity tour of the Los Parrandboleros Murcia group, which begins on June 22 and aims to raise funds for programs for asylum seekers and / or refugee.

The tour will begin at the Teatro Romea in Murcia and is part of the activities carried out by the Cepaim Foundation on the occasion of the "World Day of Refugees", on June 20, and awareness campaigns on the situation of people Asylum seekers or refuge "12 million pedaladas" and the "Reflejad @ s" Project.

Office of Attention

The City of Murcia, through the Department of Social Rights, maintains the Office of Assistance to Refugees, in collaboration with the associations Cepaim, Accem, Murcia Acoge and Red Cross, which provides assistance to anyone arriving in the Region From a conflict zone.

All primary care is given to them and a way of insertion in the society of Murcia is sought.

At present more than 200 people are in a situation of welcome in the municipality of Murcia.
