A course at the University of the Sea will raise awareness about the reality of people with disabilities (16/06/2017)

Bringing the reality of people with intellectual disabilities and cerebral palsy in the different stages of their lives and sensitizing the participants about the reality of these people and the support they need to improve their lives are the objectives of the International University course Of the Sea-Campus Mare Nostrum "Leisure and disability: a path towards inclusion. Cognitive accessibility: understandable spaces", held in the Faculty of Education of the University of Murcia from 28 June to 1 July.

The course is led by David Rivera Luzón, Director of SOI (Inclusive Leisure Service) and Conrado Navalón Vila, professor at UMU.

The activity aims to train students in the concept of "Inclusive Leisure" and "Cognitive Accessibility", and provide them with an experience that gives them a positive view of people with intellectual disabilities and / or cerebral palsy, as well as that people with disabilities Intellectual and / or cerebral palsy have the opportunity to expand their relational circle from leisure activities.

The course has a theoretical-practical approach, with much participation of people with intellectual disability and cerebral palsy, especially in the final coexistence.

The activity tries to give students the tools to act appropriately when they relate to a person with intellectual disability, and train them to act as "provocators" of a change of mentality in our society, creating a new culture based on solidarity and inclusion.

Inclusive Leisure has its own methodology of work, centered on the person.

It is a more advanced way of understanding leisure, assuming that all people with disabilities have the right to enjoy the same spaces as other citizens.

On the other hand, Cognitive Accessibility is the great unknown of Universal Accessibility.

The activity has a duration of 25 hours, and those who enroll in it will be entitled to 2.5 credits free configuration or an ECTS-CRAU credit.
